Everyday I tell myself things you had said to me. Sometimes it’s small things like “Alex if you pick up one thing everyday, your room won’t be such a mess” and I remind of what you would say to me every time I was anxious about something. You would tell me about how after not playing hockey in between seasons you would get anxious that maybe somehow you would forget how to skate. You would build up anticipation of falling and looking silly but, every time you went back on the ice it was like second nature. As if you never stopped skating in the first place. You would tell me to just get on the ice, and everything’s going to be okay. It’ll all fall into place. But everyday that I wake up, in a world without you in it it does feel like falling on the ice. It’s so terrifying navigating the world without you. I know nothing about the world with you. Yet I know that me continuing to live would make you proud. If there was anything you wouldn’t want it’s for me to stop my life right in its tracks because you’re no longer here. I try everyday to see the small things I do that would make you proud. I just wish I could hear it from you. I miss you dad, I miss sitting with you and watching YouTube videos or dumb movies. I miss bringing you things I had baked, well more like getting in your car and forgetting it even though I wanted to surprise you. And most of all, I miss you telling me that I’m okay. That I’m going to be okay, to just go and get back on the ice. #parentloss #dadgrief #grief
