@justasking.us.ca: Do you think the separatists would have been more successful with competent leaders? #alberta #canada #ucp #referendum #albertaproud
A competent leader wouldn’t support this in the first place so no.

I wonder would it of been closer if we were not in a fight for our life with our neighbour's to the south, kinda got the attention of a massive part of our population that may not of been so vigilant otherwise.

I dont think they thought there'd be that kind of turnout here. Especially looking at the past provincial election turnouts.

the referendumb was just a survey, to see our response to private Healthcare, defunding the education system, and promoting being openly racist, and seeing if we support government corruption.

and now I've seen on some super separatist posts comments of will do it in a year because everyone's opinions are going to change and they'll all flip and we'll get our separation. they act like the referendum is an instant separation. separatus clearly have no idea how this whole thing works.

I think they should form their own party and take 20 percent of the vote mostly away from the UCP at that point. Will create a minority government for a few years but typically that better

I think 25% overstates separatist sentiment in Alberta. A lot of people voted yes to "send a message to Ottawa" with no real intent to separate.

We’ll have to wait and see how B.C. does with their referendum. Will they stay or will they go?

If they didn't immediately sell out to the Americans in this political climate, maybe a little bit better

And they were so sure it was going to be a huge win, that they now don’t think the outcome is valid!!!

No, it wouldn’t have gone differently. Alberta is full of patriotic Canadians. Plus, the Quebec situation is completely different and has been around since confederation.

If it was a legit idea there would be smart people behind behind it 😂 Alberta has many universities, research institutes, and think tanks

No. And Quebec is different...they already have their own laws and an actual culture outside just bring Canadian. Alberta has no real ability to separate. Quebec has always been a sort of separate part from before there were any other provinces. Canada *created* Alberta as it stands.

No. The outcome wouldn’t change. Solely because just like the Conservatives, the separatists are also rude and like to call other people names. Competent leaders or not, the separatists would’ve lost no matter what.

The only reason they even got to a point of a vote is by hijacking a traditional party. Had they formed a specific separatist party and run on that platform they’d have barely got off the ground.

Just a reminder.. Carney was never a politician before being handed the PM role! And look at this country now! Look how we are in a downward spiral ever since he was given power! So if we are goons talk about some.. fair to talk about all!!

The whole point for the separatist leaders is to destroy Canada and sell Alberta to the USA.

People in Alberta, and everywhere else, are right to be deeply angry about their exploitation under late stage capitalism. The problem is that their anger is too easily redirected toward scapegoats (like immigrants) instead of the governments and corporations responsible for it.

I just realized also... they managed to get 400k signatures... and they got 500k votes... so they got 75% of the total signatures for seperation... something stinks on that.
