Civil war? Ireland was fighting a colonial power. Mentioning the troubles and only talking about the UK is inaccurate

Calling the troubles a civil war is mental 😭. Like, I'm not blaming you for getting it wrong but it's so specifically wrong it feels like ragebait?

appreciate this video but fyi, it wasn't a civil war it was oppression by the British empire, and a lot of Ireland suffered so referring it to the UK is like saying Ireland is in the UK, the conflicts that came in the later years with paramilitaries were directly caused by the British army, and the north is still occupied today

it wasn't a civil war in the united kingdom it was a civil war in the north of ireland. the distinction is important. referring to the uvf as "irish" is also ridiculous.

Ok it's semantics. Language is important. Especially considering what's being discussed. Aside from being inaccurate, it's odd to use British, UK and Ireland interchangeably. None of those things are the same thing. One of those things suffered a brutal and bloody occupation that included a genocide at the hands of another. It's not hard to talk about Ireland and Britain as separate entities because they are. That's not even touching on the civil and war part.

I feel like the UVF probably wouldn't love being called an Irish Paramilitary group and that's hilarious
