@spacetheoryy: A runaway stellar remnant may have struck one of the Milky Way’s mysterious magnetic structures, leaving what looks like a cosmic fracture. 🌌 NASA’s Chandra X-ray Observatory captured evidence of an unusual break in a long magnetic filament near the center of our galaxy, known as G359.13 and nicknamed “the Snake.” Stretching roughly 230 light-years across, the structure has a distinctive shape that makes the apparent disruption especially intriguing. Astronomers suspect a rapidly moving pulsar may be responsible. A pulsar is the dense, rapidly spinning remnant left behind after a massive star explodes. The suspected object is traveling at approximately 2 million miles per hour. Researchers believe its collision with the filament may have disturbed the magnetic field and produced a bright X-ray feature near the break. The exact cause remains under investigation, but studying this event could help scientists understand how powerful magnetic structures behave near our galaxy’s center. #NASA #MilkyWay #SpaceDiscovery #creatorsearchinsights #Astronomy
