Letโ€™s talk about Eureka Squared because girl, this curriculum is not for the weak! ๐Ÿ˜ญ One thing Iโ€™ve learned is that you have to take those key questions and concepts and really make them tangible for your students. Eureka is designed to expose students to different mathematical strategies, and because the lessons build on one another, the ultimate goal is for students to eventually find the strategies that work best for them. But letโ€™s be real, it is a VERY scripted curriculum, and that can make teaching it challenging, especially when you donโ€™t have the full 60 minutes! Today I wanted to share a little glimpse into the learn portion of our first grade math lesson. Weโ€™re working on word problems where students have to think about what they started with, what changed, and how to find the missing part. We also explored using a number path to help us make sense of the problem. Something I really want teachers to notice is how much back-and-forth conversation is happening. Iโ€™m constantly asking questions, having students explain their thinking, and finding ways to keep them actively engaged while still holding them to a high level of academic rigor. I think itโ€™s so important for teachers to actually SEE what these lessons can look and sound like in a real classroom. You can follow the curriculum, teach the mathematical concepts, and still bring your own personality and engagement strategies into the lesson! Hopefully seeing this modeled gives another teacher an idea they can bring into their own classroom. โค๏ธ #TeacherTok #FirstGradeTeacher #EurekaMath #ElementaryTeacher #TeacherTips
