it’s because the countless taxes and levies the governments put on energy (the net zero part is heavily subsidised by the tax payer and is intermittent due to weather conditions) and short termism political greed. The tories and Lib Dems were going to build a new fleet of nuclear power plants when they got into power but it was going to take 10-12 years an it wasn’t “politically expedient” to take that cost when they might not be in power to take credit when they were completed which the tories were ironically. They also would have come online during the start of the Ukraine-Russia war when the energy crisis really started to kick off

Anyone being realistic would say yes we need to transition but that takes years and previous governments didn't bother so we still need energy whilst that takes place.

It’s a game. His offering a reduction in the gas standing charge. Not the electric just gas. His increased the output license to 6%. His done a deal to permit them more gas in exchange for funding the gas reduction. It’s logic is illogical because they don’t want to upset the environmental brigade. They could ramp up production but they haven’t. See the deception.
