In the deserts of southern Tunisia, the landscape is pocked with huge round craters — and each one is actually the hidden courtyard of a home. 🏜️👁️ For generations, Berber families carved their rooms directly into the walls of these pits, some dug up to 30 feet deep, a few even stacked on two floors, with tunnels connecting one neighbor's pit to the next. The genius is in the temperature: while the summer sun above can blast past 120°F, the rooms carved below stay up to 27 degrees cooler — with no electricity and no machines of any kind. Footpaths run right across the top of the rooms, so you can literally walk over an entire household without ever realizing it's there. Heavy rains in the late 1960s collapsed many of the pits, and yet some families simply stayed, living on underground. Years later, one of these very homes became Luke Skywalker's house in Star Wars. And strangely, no record anywhere shows when the first pit was ever dug. Could you live your whole life beneath the desert? 👇 #AI #mystery #didyouknow #unexplained #tunisia
