Covid hit in my 3rd year of undergrad and after the first sem of my 4th my uni emailed me and was like “hey your grades are good wanna do a masters?” And since the world was paused what else was i gonna do? That was my entire reasoning. And then i applied for jobs for another year after and had to do another yearlong postgrad certificate program to even break into this job market 🫠🙃

I followed this path, got the PhD, and I don’t recommend it to anyone. I’ve left academia entirely, it chewed me up and spit me out.

Is this like arts specific? I want this community but my PhD is NOT like this 😭😭😭 I did it cuz I wanted to do cancer immunology and I’m doing it but it’s just like a job but worse. there’s no classes, I go to the hospital 9-5 on a good day (usually way longer) and get paid minimum wage, idrk anyone else in my program and I think my job is probably gonna just be the same shit with a new title when I’m done this thing. I want a curious autistic academic community too

I am the grad school outlier because I wanted a specific career that required a masters-level education to be licensed in 😅 So it was the plan from day one and now I've been in the field for 8 years. And I didn't have to write a grad school thesis!
