As an Eritrean woman I experienced this a lot from Arab women growing up. They’d try to ‘humble’ me by mentioning my darker skin while simultaneously complimenting my facial features

I’m pretty dark, my hair is 4a and a little longer than mid back. I had a lightskin friend who also have 4a hair, but she struggled with length retention and it never grew past her shoulders. She would say slick stuff like “how you dark with long hair” or “I’m the one who should have hair like that”. She would say it jokingly, but I don’t play that so I had to cut her off.
