A great rebrand should never erase what made a brand iconic. It should take everything that made it special and make it even stronger. That’s the philosophy behind my unofficial McLaren logo redesign. McLaren is a brand built on decades of racing heritage, innovation and performance. But with its updated identity, I felt something was missing. The original logo had a distinctive sense of speed, aggression and movement. The new direction feels cleaner and more modern, but has it lost some of the character that made McLaren instantly recognisable? So I challenged myself to bring those qualities back. Rather than completely reinventing the identity, I explored how the old and new could work together. Combining the simplicity of the updated wordmark with the aggressive, aerodynamic characteristics of its predecessor. Every curve, angle and letterform was considered to create an identity that feels faster, sharper and more purposeful. Something that respects McLaren’s history while pushing its visual identity forward. Because modernisation should never come at the expense of recognition, personality or brand equity. The strongest brands don’t abandon their heritage to embrace the future. They build upon it. A successful rebrand isn’t simply about making a logo look more modern. It’s about understanding what made the brand iconic in the first place and finding a way to make those qualities even more powerful. Follow for more value! 🚀
