The initiative helps eligible U.S.-born children of Mexican parents register their birth in Mexico without paying certain fees or obtaining expensive apostilles and official translations of their American birth certificates. Participants can receive a Mexican birth certificate and a CURP (Clave Única de Registro de Población), an identification number used to access government services, education, healthcare and other official procedures in Mexico. Although Mexican birth registration and CURP have already been available for free through Mexican consulates in the United States, Soy México simplifies the process for families completing their registration in participating Mexican states. The program can save families hundreds or even thousands of pesos in paperwork and processing expenses. In Chihuahua, the deadline is November 30, 2026. Other participating states may have different deadlines and requirements, so families are encouraged to contact their local Registro Civil office for details.
