Saints are perfect in the spirit; however, we are tripartite—like God, we possess both soul and body—and these are not sanctified. The renewal of the mind is necessary, for God cannot have dealings with the flesh; thus, we are not sanctified in the flesh. Were it otherwise, we would be perfect the moment we received Jesus—yet we are not. We are righteous, but only in the spirit. Because God is Spirit, He can only engage with the spirit. The soul is sanctified through the renewal of the mind.
