@thechrishinton: We teach men never to hit women because they’re smaller and more vulnerable. So why do we justify hitting children by calling it discipline? And why do we expect people to intervene when women are hit, but often stay silent when it happens to children? I’m not asking you to agree with me. I’m asking you to examine the logic and explain the difference. #parenting #doublestandards #childhoodtrauma #criticalthinking #punishment
Comparing adult relationships to raising children is flawed. Much like I would not put my a woman in timeout or grounding. The expectation is adults are on the same level, kids are not. Adults are no longer being raised and taught discipline, with kids you're still developing them. Now how you raise your kids, that depends on your belief, but corporal punishment should not be confused with abusing and hitting and soanking are 2 differert actions.

If it’s OK to take away a child’s phone, is it OK to take away your wife’s phone?

I am not sure you’ve met a child like mine 😂 I love her! She strong fierce and very smart. She is a tester and unfortunately that corner stuff just doesn’t have a lasting effect. NOW we don’t believe in beating … there is a HUGE difference. Discipline with love is required for ours ❤️🫶

In raising both of my kids, I never expected when they started to cruise around tables and pull up on chairs and reach for hot coffee or things like that I would lightly smack the back of their hand and say no no. That’s all it took. Then when I would say no no or no they listened. You have to start young and then you don’t have to continue when they get older. The greatest form of punishment for a child is for their parent to be disappointed in them. And you get that across by talking to them not getting physically violent.

The rod was actually like a shepherd’s staff to guild the sheep, not to beat them with it.

There's a major difference in spanking (a pop on the behind/below the belt) a child and a man hitting/beating on a woman.

Violence is never the answer. Id defend children and women. Violence should never be an answer or justified. It teaches all the wrong ways to resolve an issue. Its all abuse no matter what label you give it. We should be helping each other find reasonable and effective reasoning not teaching physical force and violating anyone's safety. Life is sacred. All life!

Too many adults hit kids (and women) in anger. That is not true consequences. That is someone with anger issues masking as discipline. I was beaten as a child and if anything, that behavior instilled fear in me and made me afraid to advocate for myself. So I see it as much more harm than good.

that same book that says spare the rod and spoil the child also says what you do on to the least of these you do unto me. God is love is not a violent act.

The question is what gives someone the right to put their hands on another person. No one should be hitting anyone. It’s part of being a CIVILization.

I never hit my kids and wouldn’t let anyone else do it either. It’s only done by those who lack better parenting skills.

I believe religion and the Bible had a lot to do with why children and women where hit out of discipline. We are teaching that child learned behaviors that it is ok to hit. Those get wired into their nervous system and the cycle keeps repeating. Catholics hit children all the time especially in schools when they wanted to teach children to write with their right hands and not left. It isn't alright to cause physical harm to a child, women, or man.

This definitely made me think very hard about my opinion on this. However, I do think you've set up a paper tiger. My husband has no right to "discipline" me in any way (time out, grounding, spanking or otherwise!) can't actually think of any way he would have the right to do anything other than a discussion and even that is up for debate. My husband never had the place to discipline me. Children must have discipline and guidance and it should start almost immediately. I think there are a myriad of acceptable forms of guiding and punishment for children. Each stage of development has new ways to be able to discipline them. You absolutely can't reason with a very young child or toddler😳. Not saying you should absolutely spank but I don't think it's completely unacceptable either.

@ktamster: My parents used to physically disciplined us as children. It caused resentment towards my parents. I promised myself that i would never hit my child. I have never spanked my son and at 18 he is a great person.

You don’t. You teach, guide and love them through it. There’s many forms of consequences that don’t include abuse. Consequences must match the offense. ❤️

This is definitely a false equivalent and I know that even though you’re saying that you don’t have to believe that one is equal to the other, it’s the comparison that you’re using to smuggle in a conclusion. I don’t know if you’re doing it for clicks I follow you and I listen to everything that you ever say so I’m just being objective here. Clearly, if you are on the side of the debate that corporal punishment, is it necessary in childrearing then just state that and provide your evidence. And I think you’re also missing some things… It’s not just inappropriate to hit women it’s inappropriate to hit anybody that’s an adult that you just disagree with or they make you mad or whatever it is because that’s outside of the realm of a disciplinary action at that point and it’s simply just violence. They still administer corporal punishment in the schools in my state, but they don’t condone smacking a woman for getting out of line. Again, I feel like your question was posed in such a way to get a response rather than an answer and I get it because I’m sure this will get tons of interaction… Good job.
