He was born on December 25, 1918, in Mit Abu El-Kom, a village in Menoufia Governorate, Egypt. He grew up in a simple Egyptian family and graduated from the Royal Military Academy in 1938. From a young age, he wanted Egypt to become independent and free from British occupation. Sadat was one of the members of the Free Officers Movement, which led the Egyptian Revolution of July 23, 1952. This revolution ended the monarchy and helped establish the Republic of Egypt. After the revolution, Sadat held several important positions in the government. He later became vice president under Gamal Abdel Nasser. After Nasser died in 1970, Sadat became the president of Egypt. One of Sadat's greatest achievements was his leadership during the October War of 1973. On October 6, 1973, the Egyptian army launched a surprise attack against Israeli forces in Sinai. Egyptian soldiers crossed the Suez Canal and broke through the Bar Lev Line, which Israel considered a strong defensive system. The Egyptian army achieved important military successes and restored the confidence of the Egyptian people after the defeat of 1967. The war changed the political and military situation in the Middle East and opened the way for negotiations to recover Egyptian territory.
