@cgledhill: The Big Belly Oak is one of my favourite trees. Throught to be about 1100 years old, it’s almost end-of-life for an oak tree. It’s a massive 37 feet circumference and is mostly hollow inside. If you’ve never sheltered from the rain inside a hollow tree then I highly recommend it! #trees #treetok #historytok #Hiking #nature

if you’re ever in Southern California, contact the Pechanga tribe and make an appointment to see the great oak. You have to be taken there by a Pechanga guide, but it is a beautiful tree Rumerill to be between 1000 and 2000 years old. It is only survived so long because some sort of debris flow in the creek connects to it buried part of the trunk and the branches now rest on the ground so it has never split or been knocked over in a windstorm due to the support. Very awesome tree.
