@algattas: 🚨 APPROXIMATELY 200 FISH FOUND DEAD AT ENGLISH SPRINGS PARK—HERE’S WHAT CHINO HILLS RESIDENTS SHOULD KNOW. The City of Chino Hills discovered the fish deaths on Friday, October 9. Staff immediately removed the affected fish and collected water samples to investigate what may have contributed to the incident. As of the City’s October 21 update, preliminary testing has identified just one notable anomaly: low dissolved oxygen. The City says this can significantly stress fish, and oxygen levels may have dropped even lower before the samples were collected. A definitive cause has not been established. 🌊 Here’s an important detail many visitors may not realize: although it looks like a pond or lake, the water feature at English Springs Park is actually a stormwater detention basin, designed to collect and manage runoff from the surrounding drainage system. The City maintains it for that purpose. It was not designed—and is not actively managed—to sustain a fish population or consistently provide conditions suitable for aquatic life. Water conditions can fluctuate. 🐟 The City does not stock the basin with fish, turtles, or other aquatic animals. Much of the aquatic life is believed to have become established through visitors releasing animals there over the years.
