Comparing something that happens three times a day minimum to something that happens occasionally is so insane

Car repairs and plumbing are mostly jobs you hire someone to do 🤦♀️

An average person can afford outsourcing car repairs and plumbing. An average person can not outsource shopping, cooking, cleaning and childcare

We also typically have better discernment, yet they want to “lead” the family

same idea with the “protecter” argument like its such empty ambiguous role, you’re not protecting your family’s life from dying everyday or even ever, it’s a possibility

Some dude said he changes a flat and protects the house, so.. nothing. nothing for decades. I have had 2 flats in 40 years

Mowing is such a mindless task, it's almost therapeutic.

I live alone, I do all of that myself. You know what work wouldn’t increase with another person in my house? the yard work. The grass doesn’t grow twice as much with a second person in my house. You know wast does increase with more people? Dishes, laundry, all other cleaning tasks.

I can't speak for division of labour if one person works and the other doesn't, that's another conversation. But comparing these "women" and "male" jobs is as easy as imagining hiring a person to do them. What's more affordable? Outsourcing car, lawn, and plumbing? Or hiring a full time chef, cleaner, nanny, and laundress? The first group is obviously more affordable - in fact, it is typically done - whereas the second is something only the rich can afford. Why is this still being compared.

Out of all the couples I know, I’d estimate in 70% of them the woman is gardening, buying and taking care of the flowers and flower beds etc.

I love her point about pouring into each other. Part of pouring into each other is noticing when your partner is caring too much. My ex couldn't fill my cup to save his life. I was happy to take care of our family but I begged him to care for me. To notice when maybe I could use special treatment. I went years without dates, extra sleep on the weekend, a bath without someone asking me questions, gifts, or the noticing when even these "man" chores needed to be done. I check my own oil, add air to the tires, wash windows, etc.

I do the mowing too. I usually also plant a veggie garden. My husband wanted to take over a row to plant a variety of hot peppers for “him” to make hot sauce. I left that row alone. My spring garden came and went, was beautiful and full of delicious veggies. His row of peppers is still hanging on out there full of weeds and rotten peppers. He asked me why we didn’t make hot sauce. I said, “WE didn’t want to make hot sauce. YOU did.” He now wants “US” to plant a fall garden. Ummmmm NO. I’m done. lol

That’s exactly what I told her. Daily tasks versus weekly or monthly or annual “man tasks” are not the same mental load or shared labour.

Plumbing??? How often are they fixing a sink?? I've lived in my home for 10 years and have never needed any plumbing maintenance

I just think these examples are so specific and don’t even apply to most households. Yard work? Plenty of people live in apartments without yards. Car maintenance? I’m not fixing my electric car myself lol. Plumbing? What, pulling hair out of the drain? Most men aren’t plumbers. Meanwhile cooking, cleaning, laundry and childcare need doing every single day. How are these even comparable?

"And other things men do” … translation: I got no more examples 😂 Car service? We pay a professional to do it. Plumping? We pay a professional to do it. Yard work? Many ppl don’t have a yard and if they do, its a job which one has to do once a week at most for like a hour. One can’t compare it to cooking, cleaning, doing childrelated house chores, childcare for hours EVERY DAY.

using their logic, a woman shouldn't do anything because she occasionally gets pregnant which is equal to him going to work everyday

I can’t believe men think most men do plumbing and car repair 🤣🤣 literally we are all calling a plumber, we are going to jiffy lube, we are both participating in yard work
