Low tone doesn’t always mean we need to work harder — sometimes we need to help the mouth get more information. 👄✨ This little guy is fully g tube dependent and REALLY struggles with his oral motor skills. One of moms goals is him drinking protein shakes through a straw and sucking puree from a pouch. For some of my little feeders with low oral muscle tone, I may use vibration as one tool during therapy to provide increased sensory input and help bring more awareness to the lips, cheeks, tongue, and jaw. That extra input can be incorporated into play and feeding activities as we work on skills like: ✨ Lip closure ✨ Jaw stability ✨ Tongue movement ✨ Chewing patterns ✨ Oral awareness and coordination But vibration isn’t a one-size-fits-all “oral motor exercise.” The goal is to use sensory input intentionally and then carry that awareness into a functional skill — eating, drinking, chewing, or managing food. Because in feeding therapy, we’re not just trying to make the mouth stronger. We’re helping the whole system learn how to move more efficiently. 🩵🌊✨ ***parents granted permission to post*** #FeedingTherapy #PediatricFeeding #OralMotorSkills #FeedingSLP #SpeechTherapy
