The Manitou Incline was one of those adventures we knew we wanted to do, but definitely didn't fully understand what we were signing up for. 😂🥾 At first glance, less than a mile sounds manageable. Then you start climbing and realize this isn't really about the distance. The combination of 2,768 steps, nearly 2,000 feet of elevation gain, steep grades, and high altitude makes this a completely different kind of hike. One of the biggest things that helped us was spending time in Colorado before attempting it. We had already been there for two weeks and had several hikes under our belts before taking on the Incline. If you're coming from lower elevation, giving your body time to adjust is something I wouldn't overlook. And definitely plan ahead. The Incline is free, but you do need a reservation for a time slot. Reservations are released on the first of each month for the following month. 👉 Reserve your spot here: Manitou Incline Reservation Portal Hydration is another thing we took seriously. There's not much shade, and you're combining heat, altitude and a very steep climb. We carried 2L water bladders in our packs and were glad we had them. And then there's the little detail we didn't fully appreciate beforehand… You don't hike back down the Incline. 😂 After those 2,768 steps, you're looking at roughly 3 miles on Barr Trail to get back down. It's beautiful, but after your legs have already worked that hard, those extra miles hit differently. 😳 Would we do it again? Maybe. 😂 We're really glad we challenged ourselves to do it, and we're even happier to have the memories (and pictures) to prove it. But we're not sure our knees are ready for round two just yet. That's the thing about adventure, though. Sometimes you finish something and think, “That was insane. I'm so glad we did it.” ❤️ Would you put the Manitou Incline on your Colorado bucket list? ⛰️ #manitouincline #coloradoadventures
