@japjeetsuppal: How much should the Mayor and City Council get paid in Livingston? And who should decide? The Mayor and City Council currently receive $300 a month for serving on Council. These are part-time public service roles. We do not work full-time at City Hall, and City Councilmembers generally have day jobs outside of these roles. As it currently stands, the City Council could vote to give themselves a raise as they deem fit. This conversation came up because the City is actively updating its Policies/Procedures for City Councilmembers. Within this document is language around compensation for the City Council. I don't believe that elected officials should vote on their own raises. This should he voted on by our bosses, the general public. We will be pushing to affirm this language within City Code to ensure any future raises that may be granted to the City Council can only be approved by the public. #livingston #merced #fresno #government #election

“Ask not what your country can do for you, ask what you can do for your country” IMAGINE if all political position was open only as voluntary work. Then we would see who’s in it for their own benefit and who’s in it to serve their country.
