I don't know any economist who says that. The most important inventions in order were: 1. the card, 2. the sailing ship, 3. the car, 4. the steam ship, 5. the train. The bicycle is somewhere around #15.

...unless the purpose of the improvement is greater or longer lasting than a comparable change made on the same construct for significant benefit to another construct, in which case the Concorde pilots at 2400km/h from Australia to Ottawa via Dublin, created a much greater impact than the 747 pilots, or other regulars, from an evolutionary perspective. But... the bicycle still has greatness among inventions, while nearly ubiquitous (not parked near an igloo) - so I'd introduce a sigmoid graph, particularly showing the log phase of the law of diminishing marginal/economic returns.
