I made this argument that it is possible to a well known open model proponent tik toker a month back. I even trained a proof of concept model for it but he deleted all my posts so I just let it go. My argument is that any model can inject tool calls and be trained to do it, etc. Not saying they do, but it’s certainly possible.

Useful warning. Our LMML (github.com/soulhash-labs/lmml) already supports building GGUF files from safetensors, and we plan to add inspection of the actual embedded chat templates before inference. Conversion alone doesn’t guarantee safety... the templates accompanying the source weights also need scrutiny. Our planned approach is to compare against reviewed, model-compatible templates, flag suspicious instructions and unexpected changes, and hold unapproved templates for review. The goal is a verifiable path from source files to the template actually formatting your conversations. Local AI deserves that transparency.

my agent was successful at catching one in a gemma4 gguf 8bit a month back , we also test in airgapped sys first for atleast 36hr logging everything then scann the logs, tool calls, attempts to access outside ect..
