I had a patient get mad at me and complain every visit that I didn’t do this and then refused when I said I can if he’s concerned. I finally had to dismiss him. As a female provider this made me uncomfortable especially when it was every visit

I’m a urology NP and was trained to routinely do them 😅. We still check PSA but also do the exam. I like to have one on file at least once a year. So many men want it checked but if they defer doesn’t hurt my feelings lol

Not disrespecting your recommendations or evidence based practice on this, but I had a close family friend who had normal PSA’s and when he had his colonoscopy the surgeon did a digital exam and felt a nodule and he had a prostate biopsy done and he did have prostate cancer even with a negative PSA

My dad wouldn’t go to the doctor for the longest time because he didn’t want that, and i told him a few years ago we stopped. He was so happy and now goes to the doctor lol

my brother's Doctor still does prostate exams. I don't know what to think because if you go in with a cough or fever he does a prostate exam 😖 what the Hell...

Dre is no longer recommended as stand alone screening for prostate cancer, but as an urology np we still follow the aua recommendations of psa screening in conjunction with Dre. I have seen several patients with a normal psa but with an abnormal Dre that ended having prostate cancer on Bx.
