@thetimeofamerica1: Russian oil refineries should never inspire greater concern than Ukrainian families trying to survive another night. JD Vance has urged Ukraine to stop striking Russian energy facilities, arguing that those attacks increase energy costs for Americans. I understand why fuel prices matter to households struggling with bills. But Ukrainian lives deserve far more weight in this conversation. Russia invaded Ukraine. Demanding restraint from the country defending itself requires a serious explanation of how its people will be protected in return. Where is the urgency about keeping children safe? Where is the insistence that Russia stop attacking Ukrainian communities? To me, this administration’s priorities look morally upside down when its criticism of Ukraine centers on the price of diesel while Ukrainians face the possibility of losing everything. Vance did not literally say he excuses attacks on Ukrainian cities. But his argument deserves scrutiny for what it emphasizes and what it leaves unanswered. Americans should expect their leaders to pursue affordable energy without treating another country’s survival as an inconvenience.
