Didn’t Victoria Monet just do this ? The album cane out just a few weeks ago and wrapped up a tour a few months ago and the album imo was not a good cohesive project and was not as good as Jaguar 2

I will say it's levels to this and you have to have a certain degree of legacy in order to make this OK. I did not love Bruno Mars most recent album, but I absolutely loved being at his concert a few weeks ago and there's a few other artists. I can think of that have enough of the catalog to allow me to look past a mediocre recent album in order to buy tickets for their concert

It also reads as an insecure cheat code imo, like betting 100% on the blind faith of stans, esp when it’s a tour FOR said album, purely fueling the stan flames to sell out a show and it’s icky

Your point about an artists will sell you a blank CD because they know you will buy it reminded of when Cowboy Carter was announced a lot of fans bought the first wave of CDs and vinyls but when they received it half the songs were missing 😕

I wonder how much of this is the artist versus the label. I totally agree, but I think most artists don’t have nearly the level of control that we assume they do. It’s curious too because I guess it protects the artist if it’s a flop but if the album is amazing then tickets would be much harder to get so what’s the point of this? To pre-fund the tour itself? The album rollout?

the album grew on me by now so i'm glad i did buy the ticket but if i'm being honest when olivia rodrigo's new album dropped i only added a few songs to my playlist after my first listen and might not have bought a ticket if the sale was right after the release

i felt the same way but my mind changed after the a*pop tour. i HATED the album, i tried to listen to it several times but i never made it past the singles. but live ? i fell in love this songs and been streaming the album even though the feel is not the same. but i love how tate mcrae a “release eve” show performing the songs. i feel like that’s a better option.
