I understand if this was just a person with no internet presence, but she’s an artist, someone who want to be a public figure and have fame, she blew up more, new people are finding this out, which caused backlash. People haven’t done the said growth of deconstructing growing up in a racist/white supremacist society/environment like the comments try to act like because these takes is just part of white conformity, the problem is people think change/growth = never having to acknowledge said past ever again; if you did the work of said growth you should able to move through that dissonance and uncomfortably, understand the push back even years later and accept it not “I’m 30 now and already apologized so stfu” but because we prioritize the comfort of yt ppl, we sympathize more with former racist and somewhat antagonize the victim, which is why you agree with comments talking about how the internet was different before “blm” or “me too” like that changed anything, which is why you treat Daryl Davis as someone who has done the “growth” or have the strength to look past black trauma and as some type of end goal to make change and not their own personal ideology which lead them to that point; we try to water down the pain, trauma and suffering black kids have been going through for decades, we didn’t get the privilege to ignore it, to ignore the violence of anti blackness which is partly fueled by these “racist phase”, exactly why the majority of people agreeing with you in the comment section are yt ppl, which is why many yt leftist say “this is only a class war” or always talking about getting offline and in your community (which is correct) but ignoring redlining, minorities displacement, gentrification, racism in those spaces in general 😭because you’ll never have to acknowledge white guilt or how your own past may have caused violence, in your own community, which is what really creates growth, by doing the work yourself and not the victims having to hold space for you.
