Yeah I used to hate cops too.. until I got arrested on multiple felony charges for being at the wrong place at the wrong time. On the first day of trial he learned he arrested me the day after my mom died. I was only there because after that I was so mentally lost. He came up to me in the parking lot after and said “I didn’t know, I’m sorry” and he refused to testify in my case after that. That completely changed my life that day and I actually became someone after that. They really are just human as well.

I had one of my small town cops find me drunk one night sitting in my car and he could have easily given me a dui. I was 18. I was stupid, and he got me out, carried me to his car, set me inside and told me he was taking me home and that he never wanted to see my name in the system for the rest of his career. He dropped me off at my house and carried me to my front door because I was half asleep. I’ve been sober for 15 years and I think about him often.

911 dispatcher here.. cops do more than the gen pop will ever know. The things they carry and cope with would break every person who claims to hate them. I will forever be grateful of those who go above and beyond for their community. 💙

Small town cops are a rare breed. He may have almost arrested me a couple times, but he tells me Happy Birthday on Facebook every year. Never misses one😭😂

When I was in high school. Do to my mom being quiet sick after brain surgery. I missed quite a bit of school. I got behind and was struggling especially with math math was my enemy. Well the cop that came and serve me my truancy papers. I kind of explained everything to her and told her what I was struggling in to get caught up. She would stop by and help tutor me when she would have time during the week. Or just to stop by and check on me in general. She crosses my mind every so often I lost touch with her forever ago.

I had a really bad DV incident with my ex and when I was finally brave enough to call 911, the resources officer who used to check up on me all the time in school was the first on scene to help me. He had been to several of my 5150 calls as a teen and seeing him still care about me after school literally awoke something in me.

I remember I called the cops one night after trying to attempt and telling them I needed help, back when I was like 16, I’ve never seen anyone drive so fast for me, and it made me think even strangers care if I live, he sat with me until I felt better and felt good enough to be left alone again. I used to fear and hate cops

Small town cop here - I’m going to visit one of my “town grandmas” in hospice today. I’m going to absolutely lose it when she passes but you KNOW I’ll be at that funeral ❤️I feel like being a cop is way different in small towns than big cities.

I’ve had very good experiences with my home town police department also. They’ve always been upstanding and honest with me. Treated me with respect, and it was reciprocated from me to them. I have the highest level of respect for the KPD

I called my small town cops when my ex was beating me to death once. They said if they “had to come out and deal with it,” they’d take us both to jail. I hung up.

I remember one of the officers telling me he’d seen cases like this and women didn’t make it out.. I still went back. Saw him at the ER when my ex beat my face again and he was so upset with me. 🥺

My brother OD’d several years ago, and his fiancé found him. She called the police a few weeks later afraid she would self harm, and they showed up and just hugged her, and they made sure she knew they were only a phone call away 😭❤️

personally love small towns because i remember everyday after my dad got arrested one certain office came to my house after school to just talk to me to make sure i was okay.

every time my abusive ex is on the run, the cops show up to my house and make sure we are aware of what’s going on and they make sure he is nowhere around my house. they have done it since the day they got the call about his breaking into my house.

I didn’t like them until one day I was lost in addiction in a condemned house that was being raided at 22 while everyone else was 40 and up. The cop that took my fingerprints cried while he told me I was his daughter’s age. He asked me if I had a mom or dad to go back to and begged me not keep hurting myself. So many cops tried to save me and he was the one who got through 🫶🏼. I hope one day the good outnumber the bad in every town BC it’s not that way for everyone ❤️🩹

I miss the cop I met 15 years ago who talked me through a suicidal episode. He gave me his card and said when I got out of the psych ward to call him so I could pet his k9. I’m 29, I no longer have the card and never got the chance to call him, but I think of him constantly. I hope another young girl got to pet the k9

I had a cop come up to me as I was standing on the top of a parking garage and have a real conversation with me instead of treating me as if I wasn’t human and cuffing me we both sat there and had a long conversation and he even told me about his attempt. He made me feel seen, heard, and like I still had a reason to be here. Never saw the cop again but I’ll always remember him for it.

there was a cop who worked at my school that was for troubles teens, her name was ms.walker, she was a mom to me at school, one day me and my mom got into a fight (my mom was physically abusive towards the kids) she left the school and showed up for me, this was 4 years ago, i seen her a month ago at a local speed way, im driving my own car, working my dream job as a preschool teacher, got my own apartment all at 18, as i explained how much life got better for me, she hit the floor and thanked god, she kept saying she prayed so hard for me. she hugged me tighter than my own mother would’ve, i’ll never forget hearing how proud of me she was for making it out.

I was 17 it wasn’t a cop but EMTs who responded to the call about me trying to od one was a older man about 55 after I got out of the hospital him and his partner stopped by my house once a week for months to ask how I was doing. I told him I wanted to be a nurse and he bought me my first textbook. 3 years later I still think about that man and how not only he save my life but he also showed up and cared when I was at my lowest. He wasn’t doing it for a paycheck he was doing it for the love of other people.

I grew up in a small town and my dad was a town lunatic and when I tell you the local pd looked after me, I mean it. my mom died when I was 14 and my dad was schizophrenic and they were even so nice to my dad who was a menace. the sheriff used to come sit and talk with him when my dad would call 911 to call the sheriff "gay" and just be a nuisance. I moved away and went to work for the sheriff dept in another city cause I felt so connected. also a few of them, retired have found me on fb 25 years after I moved away to ask how I was.
