@sfstandard: Nancy Pelosi is leaving Congress. But she's not staying out of the race to replace her. Two of San Francisco's most prominent Democrats are fighting for her seat, and Pelosi has already picked a side: Supervisor Connie Chan. Her opponent, state Sen. Scott Wiener, has a fundraising advantage and the California Democratic Party's endorsement. Chan has major labor unions and Pelosi in her corner. The two also have competing visions for San Francisco's future, from housing and AI to labor and foreign policy. So can Pelosi help decide who inherits her seat? Or will Wiener’s advantages carry him to Washington? Swipe to see where the candidates stand and what's at stake. Explore our full 2026 voter guide at the link in bio.
Guys, for the love of god, you cannot solve housing with federal investment. Look at California’s high speed rail. Connie has no idea what she is talking about, the problem is an “affordable unit” cost $900k-$1M, so the math is never going to work. Hell, the city spent $1.7M on a 250 square foot toilet. Politicians like Connie will quote their achievements in terms of dollars spent on something, when the actual problem is that nothing happens. There is so much barren completely empty land in San Francisco, if you made it easier to build, developers would build housing in an instant.
