In the short term, I agree. Once we have true RSI, then AGI, and subsequently ASI, not so much. In the long term, the most efficient and effective choice will always be AI. Humans were never meant to work jobs to live and live to work jobs. Society will need reorganization to face the long term reality of productivity and intelligence in the face of total automation of mental and physical work.

is this assuming you're a top researcher though? as an entry level data scientist right now idek how I would get there. do I have to be the best of the best to even have a chance?

Very good take. These models are incredible at answering questions and completing tasks. Figuring out the right questions to ask and tasks to complete has always been the hard part and the models are just not built for that. You give them goal they complete goal. You have to figure out the goal.

From a complete beginner standpoint, wouldn’t the researchers be the most safe when it comes to AI taking over? Instead of the jobs that are getting bulldozed they are doing the buldozing?

Grant from 3b1b put it in the most elegant way, "The proof is just the data." Once you have the data, you still need to understand how to best leverage it. 🙂

you can just prompt through any common business problem, no need for 4 years of college. this is 99% of real world usage. the rest are edge cases, problems for ai researchers

Distribution is tail heavy nowadays. So yes, there’s a lot of money in the market. Those with deep expertise are super valuable, but if you are not better than the models then you have no moat.

This is why companies like devclarity and zeb are big winners here where they act as imagination engineers and help companies get their teams ready to ship code and work in agentic frameworks. Models are great, but if handed to teams that don’t know how to exploit the full benefit, it’ll be a dilutive investment. Think about salesforce, not all teams use all capabilities of the CRM, but that doesn’t matter for salesforce given they price per seat / platform. Now with labs, there’s a double sided incentive in people utilizing properly the tech to maximize usage + outcomes. Win / win and hence why services and FDEs are so important rn. Curios to hear if you think there’s value long term of this theme
