I don’t get it, u said u can’t take on more than 2 anyways. So u need the other artist for the other 2. Why ask to pay for the 5th person, she still has an equal amount of work as you

I get it but like… it’s not her fault the other girl cancelled so that shouldn’t be on her

What you should do is take a non refundable deposit for EACH person booked. They will think twice before changing the amount of people or cancelling, and you will be able to lesson the financial blow for yourself if they do. Contract will not help you, it’s just for show because people are aware that hiring a lawyer to enforce that contract will probably cost you more than its value. Nobody will litigate over this, it’s a waste of time.

I mean this in the nicest way possible, this is totally on you, for all booking there should be clear guidelines in writing to protect you and the client. If you are securing a 2nd artist there should be 50% retainer fee so that if client cancels you can at least cover some expenses for your artist. But this is a lesson we all learn me included

I think it’s ridiculous, I don’t think that girl needs to pay before she even got her makeup done plus your still making money with 4 girls what’s the issue?

I don’t think people will ever understand are industry it’s not far that they get to run over us and we are the problem I have bills to pay and took time out of my day it’s a JOB and to be there for you if the rolls were reversed and we didn’t show up to work we wouldn’t get paid…

Unfortunately being nice does not pay your bills. As some of the comments here have shown. They don’t care about others. I don’t care anymore about if people get upset with my policies. I take accountability when I make a mistake and I expect the same from clients. If not, they aren’t a person I want to work with.

I love using Gloss Genius. It’s the best booking app. It makes them sign an agreement and it also makes them sign to protect yourself as well.

I put in my contract there are no reductions after a certain date. That’s money out of your pocket!

Girl this just happened to me. Except she didn’t even message me. I was messaging her to confirm the time because I show up 15 mins early to set up. And confirm the remaining balance due. And she reply’s back saying, it’s actually gonna be only 2 people instead of 4 for makeup and 3 for hair instead of 5. And I declined so many clients for that day and I had another artist booked to come with me as well. I told her she doesn’t get her deposit back which is 30%. (Which is nothing) and she’d response was, sorry they are grown people and I can’t do anything if they decide to not want their hair and makeup done. I was sooooo upset. If this wasn’t a return client I would have cancelled the whole thing. She booked me 5 months ago when I did another wedding for them. I hate when people don’t respect your time and don’t value you. I decided that every single person will sign a contract and not just brides.

I remember when I got married, I had to Docusign a contract from my MUA with all the terms/conditions. You should do something like that

Yeah if you dont have a contract its entirely on you. If she didn’t know and sign the guidelines and terms before booking, you cant spring that on her

Ohh hell noo , what I do is have a invoice and contract stating they have to pay 3 days in advance and if they cancel services the deposit is forfeited (they can’t use it towards the final balance)
