It is extremely dangerous for the horses in NYC. The traffic, the noise, the amount of horses that have died on our streets. They should be able to run freely, not work in terrible conditions. They should be rehomed properly. Plenty of New Yorkers who live upstate could provide them with the best homes.

Honestly, shame on the tourists who chose to take these horse-drawn carriages. It’s 2026, people should know better and have more compassion for these poor animals.

For those who don’t understand why this is a big deal, horses hooves are not designed to be standing or walking on hard surfaces for lengthy periods of time. They are designed for grassy areas or soft dirt and not meant for concrete. It can be very, very painful for the horse.

Those horses deserve the best care, open pastures, and all the food they can eat
