@tailnestrescue: Animal advocacy is such rollercoaster-and Violet's case is no different. Caring for a dog this frail is incredibly intense. The morale + trajectory could change in a moments notice. Every little variable that arises needs to be taken seriously because, "it could be nothing... but it also could be something" which is why we are being so prudent + proactive in regards to Violet's health. On one hand, our visit to Veterinary Emergency Group yesterday brought some unexpected concerns and findings. Violet has developed a cough, a heart murmur, there are some mild changes in her lung patterns + she is extremely "backed up" despite having fairly regular bowel movements. Now, are all of these all separate issues that are just presenting as her body begins to regulate itself OR is this something more grave like... refeeding syndrome. Right now, we really don't know. Dr. Beckwith is consulting with internal medicine today and we are, like you, anxiously awaiting news. And, on the other hand- roller coaster, remember?- I want to sing from the rooftops how INCREDIBLE Violet is doing. Despite what we discovered through diagnostics yesterday, she is bright, alert and truly getting stronger by the hour as you can see in this video. Yes, those are happy tears. Violet is INHALING her recommended daily caloric value broken up into about 20 feedings a day. She is strong enough to walk when I help her into a standing position. She wags her tail every time I look her direction. I am learning her cues for support + her little personality is starting to shine so brightly. This dog is an angel on earth. I am very hopefully that within the next couple of hours we will get some insight that put these big worries to rest but that timeline is kind of out of my hands. As for now, we are watching her like a hawk and just hoping we continue to see improvement. Please keep the love, support + prayers coming.
