@crmnallyobsessed: A North Carolina man who tried to help a woman screaming for help was brutally beaten by an unknown attacker. Nearly a year later, he died from complications linked to the assault, and his family is still searching for answers. David Pennebaker, 64, was birdwatching at a boat ramp in Milton, North Carolina, on Oct. 19, 2025, when he heard a woman crying out for help in the parking lot. Investigators say Pennebaker went to check on her, but an unidentified man beat him unconscious. The attack left Pennebaker with devastating injuries and a long series of medical complications. His family says he endured paralysis, repeated hospitalizations and months of painful rehabilitation before his death on Sept. 20, 2026. Pennebaker's sister, Amy Cannady, says her brother fought tirelessly to regain his mobility and independence. An avid birdwatcher and grandfather, he was known for his love of nature, deep faith and willingness to help others. Neither the attacker nor the woman who cried for help has been publicly identified. The Caswell County Sheriff's Office is still investigating, with a $1,000 reward offered for information leading to an arrest. Anyone with information can contact the sheriff's office at 336-694-2555 or Crime Stoppers at 336-694-5199. Anonymous tips are accepted. #birdwatching #goodsamaritan #unsolved #unsolvedmystery
