@balancedmindsedu: Ohio's school vouchers were ruled unconstitutional?! 😳 Yes, but EdChoice is still operating during the appeals process. And the court didn't rule that ALL vouchers are unconstitutional. The real debate involves parental choice, public funding, and who actually has access. Ohio families and teachers, what do you think of the ruling? 👇
Except public schools aren’t educating those kids in the first place which is driving them to private schools

Private schools have no state standards or test score requirements like public schools no standards to follow. Also the I pay taxes is crazy so take the $300-$500 a year you pay to school taxes. A vouchers pulls $8k-10k away from the home district far more than one person pays or the school receives

the state cut funding to public school, redirecting the money to ed choice, which then led the schools to ask for money with levies from the community, raising property taxes. the private schools aren't required to have the same oversight that public schools have to go through. some private schools have application fees that are not covered by the voucher, and kids that live in rural areas don't have private schools in their area. when families that can already afford to send their child to a private school get a voucher, it's not a scholarship... it a state funded refund/rebate.

Finland has the BEST EDUCATION IN ALL OF EUROPE. Every student speaks 3 languages, plays music and much more. Rule #1: ALL schools are equal, no difference, and NO private schools. EVERY child attends public schools that are all equal.

Public schools are the only ones that have to take every child so they shouldn't lose funding

I dont want to play the public golf course- i want to play the private golf course- maybe the state can give me a voucher so i can play a private course

but... by that logic, Ohio public schools are also unconstitutional. the state is required to provide a thorough and efficient system, which is so over bloated by excess administrative roles, low quality teaching (not many, but enough), safety concerns, personal political input, etc.

The school vouchers gave the schools the option to choose and pick which kids they wanna educate.

Private schools that accept vouchers, even one, should be required to accept every student. You’re talking public money for education you are now subject to the same rules and regulations as public schools.

I had my children in private and public schools. The public schools were far better in my opinion. My youngest struggled in math and the private school didn’t know how to help her. After 1 year in a public school she was one of the most improved on the state test!

What's interesting, it was sold as a school choice program to provide school options for this that can't afford private schools. Since the implementation of the program, there has not been a significant increase in private school enrollment. Therfore, the program was a gift to parents that could already afford the private education.

This whole thing has been so poorly managed but that’s the whole point. School choice should look like different schools in the area using different teaching models and then parents can open enroll to the teaching style that best fits their kid NOT defund public education on that businesses can sell education to whomever can afford it until there are no free options left.

Parents have always been able to apply to send their kids to private schools, and to foot the bill. There is the choice. No taxpayer should have to support the cost of sending someone else's child to a private school. Full Stop. End of Conversation

A private school that accepts public funds should also follow the same rules that public schools have to follow.

Parents don’t understand that when they choose to do a change of placement from a public school to a private school they are giving up their rights to FAPE. Private schools are not legally bound to provide services or supports to struggling students like public schools are.
