@historical_wisdom_1: AFRICA, DECOLONIZE YOUR MIND! 🌍✊🏾 WHO IS TEACHING AFRICAN CHILDREN THEIR OWN HISTORY? Dr. Arikana Chihombori-Quao, a medical doctor, Pan-African advocate, and former African Union representative, has challenged Africans to confront a question that reaches far beyond the classroom: Can Africa truly become independent if its people continue to see themselves and their history through a colonial lens? Her message focuses on the influence of colonial education, the responsibilities of African leadership, and the importance of teaching younger generations about the people who fought for the continent’s freedom. One of the central figures in this conversation is Dr. Kwame Nkrumah, Ghana’s first prime minister and president, and a major advocate for Pan-African unity. Nkrumah helped lead Ghana to independence from British colonial rule in 1957 and championed the creation of the Organisation of African Unity in 1963. Yet Nkrumah’s legacy remains contested. His supporters emphasize his vision for African unity, industrial development, and political independence. Critics also point to his increasingly centralized rule and restrictions on political opposition. Understanding his history requires examining both his achievements and the controversies surrounding his government. The question raised by Chihombori-Quao is whether African students receive enough opportunities to study these histories from African perspectives—and whether schools adequately explore the ideas, struggles, and sacrifices that shaped the continent. The controversy surrounding The Convention 2024 added another dimension to the discussion. Scheduled for January 7, 2024, at Black Star Square in Accra, the Pan-African event was cancelled shortly before it was due to begin. Organizers said the government had approved the venue in November 2023. Ghana’s government cited an unforeseen state event at the same location. The abrupt cancellation left invited speakers and attendees disappointed. These events raise important questions about education, public debate, African leadership, and the space available for Pan-African ideas. Decolonizing education does not mean rejecting every idea that originated elsewhere. It means giving African history, knowledge, achievements, and perspectives the attention they deserve—and encouraging students to examine history critically rather than accept a single narrative. 🌍 THE BIG QUESTION: Can Africa build a confident future if its young people do not fully understand the history, ideas, and leaders that shaped their continent? And who should decide what the next generation of Africans learns about its past? 🔵 Facebook | ▶️ YouTube | 𝕏 X | 🎵 TikTok | 📸 Instagram HASHTAGS #ArikanaChihomboriQuao #KwameNkrumah #AfricanHistory #DecolonizeEducation #panafricanism
