@karathebabynurse: NICU parents deserve such mindful care: here are some things that I think can be beneficial! If you’re a NICU parent also drop in the comments anything else you can think of #nicu #parents #laboranddelivery #nurse #nicuparents
I appreciated when they were able to send my medication doses to the NICU, have someone there go over the education stuff with me while I held my baby, and schedule my antibiotics/iron infusion to overlap with the NICU shift change times.

the day after I had my baby I was on mag and my husband was sleeping (he had a long night too!) and I had a nurse who told me to hit the call light every time I finished pumping and she would come wash my pump parts for me and bottle my milk and offer to take it to the NICU even when I was barely getting anything. Not expected, but SO appreciated. Thank you for taking extra care with the NICU parents. It means a lot in a tough time❤️

When I had my twins, my husband just got off a 14 hour shift and he was sleeping. I couldn’t sleep and my nurse came in for vitals and ask why I was still up and having trouble sleeping. I cried and she asked “do you want to go see your babies?”, wheeled me up at 1am and came and got me after a few hours 🥹 I’ll forever remember her

I’ll never forget the gratitude I had for the nurses that got me about of bed while I was still on mag to go up to visit my baby in the cardiac ICU. She told me it was okay to be too scared to hold him and to cry about it.

I will never forget my night nurse my last day on the post partum unit before I got discharged the next day, I was up all night bawling my eyes out because I couldn’t take the fact that I had to leave without my son and she sat in the room with me all night in between rounds and charting talking me through it and treating me like I was her daughter, she saved me in so many ways and I will forever be so grateful for her

I wish my nurses were like this. After I had my twins and they were taken to the NICU I was moved out of the birthing center portion of the hospital and just put in the general hospital area/rooms. So my nurses were not post partum nurses, so I felt so tossed aside just because my babies were in the NICU. I think I will forever mourn the postpartum experience I thought I would have 🥺

We were nicu parents last week. Nurses truly make or break the experience. We had some great ones who really tried to help us by meeting me where I was at. We were back and forth constantly. I loved it when they asked about baby.

I always appreciated that my nurses said they’d come find me if I was over at the NICU and told me not to worry about being back by a certain time. Two NICU boys and I felt so supported by my nurses 🥰

Ugh this would have changed my experience so much. My nurse basically forgot I existed and I was on a magnesium drip so I couldn’t go to the NICU without her and my husband and I could never find her. I didn’t get to meet my kids until 13 hours after they were born because of it 😭 she treated me like I wasn’t important since there wasn’t a baby in my room

My nurse left a wheelchair with a sign that said DO NOT MOVE so that I didn’t have to wait for transport when I still couldn’t walk, I nominated her for a daisy. She gave me back countless minutes with my son 🤍

My nurse was SO mean to me for being in the nicu instead of my room. Like hello, I want to be with this baby I just had? It was wild.

I needed a nurse like you so bad, after I had my daughter at 26 weeks. I had an emergency c section and an icu stay for a collapsed lung. None of my nurses after that helped with anything, my husband and mom helped with everything. They only came in to tell me to pump, press on my stomach and offer meds…thank you 🩷

THIS!! I felt so foreign & like a visitor on the postpartum floor when I had my NICU baby. I left feeling like I got no true postpartum care. Was told once I needed to be in my room more instead of the NICU. Your attention to these details is outstanding- keep up the good work🥹🤧

I wishhhh my postpartum nurses were like this for my NICU baby... they made me wait 5 hours to get permission to go to the NICU and see her. No one would give me an update if she was even breathing, let alone details on how she was.

I wish I had a nurse like you! I had my son at 34 weeks and was on mag because preeclampsia. They briefly held him up and then took him to the NICU. I wasn't able to go to see him for 24 hours after I delivered. After I finished mag they made me wait an hour before I could get out of bed. I BEGGED them to let me shower so I could go see him as soon as the hour was up. They wouldnt. I understand there. is protocol but man it was heart breaking
