They say filmmaking is changing. But really… it took us two years to figure it out. I’m Patrick Keleher. I’m 24, a filmmaker, producer, and actor. You may have seen me on The Rookie or NCIS. For the past two years, I’ve been championing a movie called FRiCK. Originally, my co-writer Matteo Bekich and I were planning to make this movie for $100K. And then… it grew into something I never could have imagined. I think filmmakers have two choices: 1. Go make the movie you’ve always wanted to make for as cheap as humanly possible. 2. Try to build something bigger and pursue studio-level or major financial backing. Neither route is easy. There is no hack. There is no shortcut. There is no magic formula for making a feature film. If you make it for cheap, you’re going to ask a LOT of people for favors. If you make it with a bigger budget, you’re going to ask a LOT of people for favors. Honestly, if I could go back, I might make FRiCK for as cheap as possible. But if I had done that, I would have missed so many of the incredible people, opportunities, relationships, and experiences that came from trying to build something bigger. And that’s the part of this journey I’m most grateful for. Because filmmaking is about the movie—but it’s also about the people you meet along the way. They say it’s not what you know. It’s who you know. So whatever route you choose, just make the movie. Keep creating. Keep meeting people. Keep learning. And follow us as we head into production on FRiCK—a movie made by Gen Z, for Gen Z. We’re changing Hollywood. And we’re just getting started.
