You lost me when you said the only logical reason for a dem under performing in a blue state during a blue wave year is because of scandals. This year has shown shifting demographics in who goes towards what party. The slide towards the democrats is not proportional. You are seeing democrats under perform in blue states because blue states are less proportionally affected by some of the unpopular policies of the Trump administration, especially diesel prices. The types of things that made Trump do so well in 2024, are now working against him in 2026, so you expect that areas where he did well to be the ones with the largest shifts, and the areas where he did poorly to have smaller shifts. Minnesota is not the only state where we are seeing this effect. The same thing is happening in Maine.

Klobuchar is consistently polling 5 points better than Flanagan in Minnesota, for what it's worth. But sure, there will be lots to unpack if this senate race ends up close.

I don’t think the seat flips but the problems are very Peggy Flanagan specific. I think her 2 biggest issues are 1) She was Lt Gov for multiple potential large scale fraud cases (Feeding Our Future trials just wrapped up right as the Learning Center stuff was starting), and 2) The Gov she was serving under, and the Gov influential daughter, both endorsed her primary opponent. I don’t think it’s enough to flip the seat but it’s enough to not really use it as a test for overall Dem popularity

Local corruption is definitely an issue but I think there’s more anger about corruption at the federal level than is being talked about. That spills over to the party in general

The thing that gives me a slight hope is the fact that MN has been a 50/50 state but the MN GOP has been VERY incompetent in the past, so the election results show us a blue state. For some reason this cycle we decided to lock in with good candidates and fundraising.
