Each comes with an envelope to send a pound of old electronics to Homeboy Recycling, which employs people rebuilding their lives after prison. Hair and body: HiBAR Four parents in Minneapolis started HiBAR to make shampoo and conditioner as solid bars, so there is no plastic bottle. It is certified cruelty-free and says it has replaced over 7 million bottles. Laundry: Meliora Meliora, founded by environmental engineer Kate Jakubas, prints every ingredient on its labels. It lobbied for a California law requiring cleaning brands to do the same, and its laundry line is completely plastic-free. Clothing: Maggie's Organics Maggie's Organics has made organic basics since 1992 and helped found a worker-owned sewing co-op in Nicaragua started by hurricane refugees. Its employees own 10% now, with a plan to reach 80%. Sheets and towels: Takasa Takasa is a husband-and-wife company in Vancouver and the first in Canada to make sheets and towels certified both organic and Fairtrade, meaning cotton farmers get a fair price. It ships to the US. Audiobooks: Libro.fm Libro.fm is 100% owned by its employees and shares profits with more than 4,000 independent bookstores. Its audiobooks are yours to keep on any device, and it refuses to promote AI-narrated titles. Amazon owns so much of what you buy that leaving feels impossible. It is not.
