oh my gosh as the less moneyed one in most of my past relationships doing the small stuff like buying cooking food paying for the small things is my love language! I can't pay for a fancy vacation but I can buy us some groceries and cook a gang good meal while we are there at least

In a committed relationship the man should be the provider and leader.
The woman should be overjoyed to cook for her man and take care of his every need.
A woman that loves her man will follow his lead and give as good as she gets.
I was blessed with a very loving husband.
In 52 years I never said no to him and he never said no to me.
By the way he raised and provided for my 5 small children and the two we had together.
Takes a lot of love and work on both parts.

try 20 years of paying everything for a chronically ill husband that couldn't work, and cheated on me in year 11 of 33 years of marriage. almost every penny i earned paid household bills, medical bills and medication cost. It left nothing for me. i believed in for better or worse even though worse was the majority of the marriage. now that it is just me, i lost my job of 30 years due to personalty and behavior changes due to a TBI and am still paying his bills. even though i have less than nothing, the peace of being alone and not having someone's life dependent on my ability to be the physical and financial caregiver is a relief. I have no desire to be in that position again even if it means living under a bridge. sorry he died, but the emotional, physical and financial relief is such peace that i never had.

You were the Giver/Water she was the Taker/Sponge. Good for you for keeping yourself safe. So many of us have been there. I know I have learned that not everyone receives thoughtfully and gives back in return. Never has to be monetarily, but definitely should be a thoughtful return.

Sounds pretty standard nowadays. The guy typically pays for everything most of the time, but that’s not equal partnership in my eyes. Usually the man does make more than the woman. You should have your own accounts if you’re not married and you should be equal in most everything you do. If either wants to purchase a gift for the other that should be OK. Sounds like it was a 90% to 10% relationship.

I had that pattern with my ex.. I paid for most things and gave more of myself then they gave. I also realized the pattern once the relationship was over

I 100% agree with you. I think that that happens far more often in relationships.

So you were with her for over a year. What was it that she provided for you that had you stay with her?

Maybe she couldn’t afford to take you out? I know it’s who you are, but it sounds very materialistic on your behalf? Were you open with her as to what you wanted in the relationship? What would make you feel complete in a relationship?

I love your plants. Anywho I think that as grown people who choose to live together there should be a separate account both put into for stuff. You were good to her and her kids is a character thing. Feel good about that. (Just an old broad’s 2 cents 🤭)
