@adhdchildbootcamp: I'm 10. I have ADHD. And this is what happens when I get home from school. I held it together all day. The noise, the lights, the sitting still, the not-calling-out, the trying to follow what the teacher said while also not losing the pencil. Six hours. From outside: a child at a desk. From inside: running six programmes at once on a system never designed for this environment. By 3pm — nothing left. "Fine at school" means the masking worked. Every neurological resource went into performing the version of me the school requires. The moment I walk through the front door — the performance ends. The cost arrives. All at once. In front of you. What I need in the first twenty minutes: not a question, not a reminder, not warmth that requires a response. I need you to be present without requiring anything. That is the only thing that works. What actually refills the tank: → Protein within 15 minutes — eggs, cheese, nut butter. Not a biscuit. → 20–30 min zero demand — no questions, no redirections, nothing → Movement if I choose it — body discharging the school day's sensory load → Your regulated presence — the nervous system I borrow stability from The homework that felt impossible at 3:30 becomes possible at 4:30. The conversation that couldn't happen at the door happens at dinner. I am not saving my worst for you. I am saving my real for you. The school gets the performance. You get the person. That is not a problem. That is the deepest trust a child can offer. 💛 Comment "ADHD" and I'll send you the Boot Camp eBook directly 💛 . . . . . #ADHDparenting #ADHDkids #ADHDmom #restraintcollapse #ADHDafternoon

Aric :
My son has adhd and reading this makes me feel horrible for not understanding him more. I take him to and from school and I’m guilty of doing some of these things but now I am going to handle this differently. I need to do better!

I just started realizing this recently and I now don’t ask him how school was as soon as he gets in the car. I just let him chill and say what he wants when he wants.
