@comrade_sinque: Everybody learned the "triumph of Christianity" version. Catherine Nixey brings the receipts for the other one. The Darkening Age opens with black-robed zealots taking iron bars to a statue of Athena in Palmyra. It ends with a thousand years of "one true faith" and a library's worth of silence. In between: temples razed, books burned, and Hypatia, the brilliant mathematician and philosopher, dragged from her chariot in Alexandria and flayed to death with shards of broken pottery. Nixey is a Cambridge-trained classicist, and the NYT called it a Notable Book of 2018. #BookTok #bookrecs #religiousstudies #historytok #hiddenhistory

Thank you for offering a realistic look at Christianity through this author. Most people don’t realize that more people have been unalived by Christianity than any military war.
