It’s gotten so bad and I feel it’s getting worse. I’ve particularly noticed an uptick three years ago, but as of last year and recently the panhandling and homelessness has gotten out of control.

You know this bad Econ we are in… it trickles down. Programs that used to be funded by the government to help people in crisis have been gutted or cut, which in turn takes someone from be in a precarious situation to being straight up homeless. Which can increase drug and alcohol abuse, etc. homelessness is increasing everywhere, not just the one place you’ve been too.

Progress Place in downtown Silver Spring provides food every day. So we do have a population but it doesn’t seem to be any worse than other parts of the dmv. It’s an issue in that we should do more as a county to help folks find a way into homes or shelters (if they are willing).

Refer people to the crisis center in rockville. there are 4 homeless outreach teams in Montgomery County and believe me they work hard.

SS has all types of resources for homelessness and there isn’t nothing funny about being homeless. Homelessness is in all city not just SS.
