I am so incredibly proud of you and everything you’ve accomplished. When you came into my life you had already been through more than any child should ever have to experience. I had no idea what the years ahead would bring, but I knew I loved you and wanted to give you a home where you felt safe, loved, and supported. We’ve been through so much together. The laughter, the tears, the challenges, the holidays, the vacations, and all those everyday moments that became some of my most treasured memories. Watching you grow into the man you are today has been one of the greatest joys of my life. I recently finished listening to your book on Audible, and I can’t begin to describe how emotional it was for me. I cried through so much of it. It brought back good memories but also some painful ones . It was a difficult time when I was going through so much… breast cancer, the end of a long relationship with your dad, and so many other changes in my own life. Through all of it, however there was this teenage boy who needed me. And what you may never fully realize is how much I needed you, too. We helped each other through some incredibly difficult times, and those years will always mean more to me than words can explain. But there was something else that touched my heart even more. The Audible version I listened to did not include your acknowledgments. When I finally received my book that was on backorder, I read what you had written to me and I cried all over again “You stepped into my life as the mother I needed most.” And then those words I’ll never forget: “Strong men need strong mothers, and I was so fortunate to have mine.” Collin, I don’t think you’ll ever truly understand what those words meant to me. Knowing that you remember our years together means more to me than any recognition ever could. And now look at you. You’ve found your voice, shared your story with the world, and become a New York Times bestselling author. Even more importantly, you’re using what you’ve been through to give others the courage to speak up and share their own stories. As proud as I am of your book, I’m even prouder of the man you’ve become. No matter how old you get, how far life takes you, or what the future holds, one thing will never change.
