I just wanted to share something with you, I met Jerry Garcia in real life. When he was alive. I was really young, I was probably 17 years old. I was working at my dad‘s gas station when he owned it. It was midnight and I was just getting done work. A limo pulled in and started fueling up. I thought it was the local limo service sealing their limo up before bringing it back to their shop. So I asked the limo driver if I can give him five dollars to bring me two blocks up the road because it was cold that night and I didn’t have a car. He said you’ll have to ask the guy in the back. And I was embarrassed. I said if you’re being rented, no problem. I don’t need a ride. But he insisted, bringing me to the back of the limo where the window rolled down. It was Jerry Garcia. The limo driver told Jerry that this young man didn’t know if we could give him a ride a couple blocks up the road. Jerry said absolutely. I still had no idea. It was Jerry Garcia because I was too young to get into his music. I said thank you and got my things and jumped in the back of the limo. The moment only lasts five minutes as I was only a couple blocks up the road. But he looked at me and he said, do you know who I am? As embarrassing as it was, I said no. He said I’m Jerry Garcia. And when he said that, although I was too young to understand his music I knew who Jerry Garcia was and what he looked like. My heart started to beat fast. He told me he just got done the concert up in Highgate, Vermont, and he was on his way back home. He also told me that it was a pleasure to to give me a ride. Lao Huo Tang F&B, a company associated with the restaurant chain, faces eight charges after owing $39,121 in CPF contributions for June to August, the State Courts heard on 29 September. It had paid a $1,600 composition amount but failed to meet an earlier direction to pay at least $22,000 towards its arrears. The court granted a final adjournment to 27 October and ordered it to pay $25,986 before then. Separately, Kenny Rogers F&B, which is listed as a brand of Lao Huo Tang Group in their website, owed $25,294 in CPF contributions for the same three months. Although it had paid a $3,000 composition amount, it had not paid the $13,000 previously directed by the court. It should be noted that Kenny Rogers F&B is now wholly owned by a company secretary of Lao Huo Tang F&B. Kenny Rogers F&B's representative said it “should be able to” clear the arrears within four weeks. The company is expected to pay before 27 October, failing which the court will proceed to take its plea. Another company, Kenny Rogers (Marina Square), had paid $7,156 towards its CPF arrears but still owed $2,236, alongside an unpaid $3,000 composition amount. The court ordered it to pay both before its next hearing on 27 October. In early 2026, debt collectors from A.S.K Debt Recovery visited several eateries under Lao Huo Tang Group, including outlets at Waterway Point and Tampines Mall. The agency claimed the group owed a wholesale supplier more than $500,000, with debts dating back to 2024 despite repeated payment extensions. It said the outlet visits followed unsuccessful attempts to contact management and resolve the matter.
