I live in Binghamton too and one of the biggest issues is the lack of affordable housing. All of the housing around here is aimed at students or the landlords want crazy rent for dumps.

I have been homeless multiple times on and off my whole life. I came to Binghamton from Catskill and it has changed my life being here. This city/area is full of support and opportunity. The issue is there isn’t ENOUGH of the opportunity and support to go around to all those people in need. I felt like I was climbing a ladder made of knifes and draggin my body through glass just to get even the littlest bit of help. It’s extremely hard and challenging and at times I felt hopeless and nearly even died but I kept pushing and when I got to the top of that ladder it was all worth it. We need more community, more resources, more THERAPY FOR FREE becuase it’s very draining mentally, we need more COMMUNITY. Now that I’m stable I help best I can those I need. Sitting with the homeless and talking to them is beautiful. Even just a conversation humanizing us and making us feel equal and like we matter just for a second is a huge help. Without these little conversations and help from the community around me I would have never made it.

I grew up there. The issue is that rent for a 3 bedroom house used to be 1k or less even. It’s now doubled. Wages have not kept up. For some reason the cost of living has risen significantly in an area in which economic opportunity has not risen at all

The rent the bills and groceries are sky high and a regular working person cannot afford to live in regular shelter,I am feeling the crunch and getting to a point to living in a tent. That is the only affordable housing. Let that sink in!

People that use and or used homeless or not they have the best guidance I used for about 3-4 months and the whole time instead of them giving into me using they told me where they messed up and wha they wish they could have done and there so giving and kind i have a couple people I still talk to bc they helped me more than my own family put clothes on my back food on the table when they could barley eat or get clothes for them for that im forever greatful for them BK, old man dave, Jess, greggy genuinely the most funny and wholesome people I’ve ever met got me to where I am today doing better i give and help any person I can bc I was there plz dm me i live in bing and would love to help supply some food and drink i would love to help u along with this journey as much as I can

That’s a very interesting observation… I think if you ask a successful person to help you and provide guidance, most of them are very, very happy to do so as well. But I like that you can find value anywhere.

Sad thing is Binghamton cares more for collage students then tem or truthfully there wouldn't be. I've lived in Broome County my whole life but no living here truthfully sucks big time. This is because they say the students bring the money in and personally thats all they care about screw the homeless and the vets and there residents and the elderly. Doesn't help we have the worst president ever. you can go off on me all ya want I'm seen Binghamton was a wonderful place to live now not what so ever unless your a collage student

I was a broke ass college student but could always give them food from my job or cigarettes. We use to talk about how F**ked the world is and people preferred the ignorant is bliss lifestyle. They also beat up a dude who was following home one night and I let them crash at my apartment for the winter. Cleaned up after themselves better than my roommates did
