@steph.the.biker.baddie: Yesterdays stop was Moonbeams Preserve in Middletown, NY, and this little hidden gem has some pretty cool history behind it! 🌿🍂 The preserve covers 150 acres of fields, forests, and wetlands at the base of the Shawangunk Ridge, along the Shawangunk Kill. Here’s a little history you might not know! The land was once part of an old dairy farm, and in 1971, Peg Moon left the property to The Nature Conservancy in memory of her parents, Truman and Lena Moon. The land eventually came under the care of the Orange County Land Trust, which protects it for wildlife and public enjoyment. The area even has a history tied to the old railroad lines that once transported local farmers’ milk to New York City! 🚂 Today, you can explore the trails, enjoy the peaceful woodlands, watch for birds, and take in the beauty of nature. I love finding places like this right here in our own backyard. Sometimes the best adventures are the ones that take you somewhere new without having to go far. 💜 One bike, endless places to explore, and so much more of New York to discover! 🏍️🍂 #moonbeamspreserve #middletownny #explorenewyork #hike #bikergirl

That’s the old O&W railroad trestle. It was torn down shortly after the railroad went bankrupt in 1957.
