It’s been on the iPhone since 2020. It was Apple’s way of allowing people to unlock their phones with a mask on.

Actually, it’s not very secure. If you’re in the same room as someone else, they can unlock your phone from across the room. The feature doesn’t rely on your heart rate or confirm that you’re the person using the phone. It simply checks if your watch is unlocked and within a strong enough Bluetooth signal range, which could easily extend across the room

not to be that guy but Samsung has had that feature for a very long time it's called trusted devices and it doesn't have to be a Samsung device if you don't want it to be for instance every time I get my car it's unlocked also you can use geofencing if you're at your house or whatever wherever you want to unlock at.. on a side note I'm surprised that Apple has so many bugs I've seen so many so far surprisingly because they usually get it right the first time

They’ve had this on iPhones for a while now. Came out when we were all wearing masks back in peak Covid days, IIRC. They eventually added the Face ID with a Mask feature that made it less necessary. A godsend for when I’m wearing my CPAP mask at night!
