I feel it’s my responsibility to raise awareness about how damaging society’s attitudes towards single parents can be. Why should we feel guilty when we’re loving our children, providing for them and meeting their needs? Shouldn’t their wellbeing matter more than keeping a broken marriage together? And let’s not forget the men who suffer in silence, too, just to keep their families together. No one, regardless of gender, should have to endure abuse to protect a marriage or family reputation. Staying together at all costs doesn’t necessarily protect our children. Sometimes, it causes even greater damage. If you’re being pressured to stay in an abusive marriage for the sake of your family, remember this: YOU HAVE THE RIGHT TO SAY NO. Divorce is not a curse. Being a single parent is not a disgrace.
