@winningstride: 🚨 Irad Ortiz Jr. Hospitalized Following Fall at Keeneland Five-time Eclipse Award-winning jockey Irad Ortiz Jr. was transported to the hospital Thursday afternoon, October 22, after being unseated at the start of Race 9 at Keeneland. Ortiz was aboard She’s Good Trouble, a 2-year-old filly trained by Joe Sharp, when she stumbled shortly after leaving the starting gate, sending him to the dirt. The on-site UK HealthCare medical team responded immediately. According to Keeneland, Ortiz was conscious and alert before being transported to a local hospital for further evaluation of a possible lower extremity injury. Daily Racing Form reported, citing his agent Steve Rushing, that Ortiz was being evaluated for a possible injury to his left ankle. The incident comes just 20 days after Ortiz returned to racing following a 55-day absence. On August 8, Ortiz suffered an injury during a pre-race incident at Saratoga. He later revealed that he had sustained seven small fractures in his left foot, an injury that nearly required surgery. He made his comeback October 2 at Keeneland. Thankfully, She’s Good Trouble remained on her feet, continued around the track without her rider, and was caught by outriders without further incident.
